When it comes to getting your car serviced it can be a real nightmare. It’s challenging to find a Mechanic that knows your vehicle but isn’t going to extort you with the price. Use this checklist once you’ve found a Central Coast Mechanic on Find My Local. It will help you assess whether they are likely to be any good. Though like so many things there is no guarantee.
It often costs a little more to see a specialist mechanic but it can be well worth the investment. They can look out for specific problems they know are common in your vehicle and they can also diagnose problems faster. They’re also more likely to have the right parts for your car so it doesn’t have to stay in the shop for too long.
If you find a specialist Mechanic for your vehicle who looks after you and charges a reasonable rate then you’ve struck gold as far as keeping your car well maintained.
To be a formal Mechanic they need to have a TAFE certificate or a formal apprenticeship qualifications. The later being more desirable as it means they’ve undertaken 4 years on the job & classroom education.
Another accreditation to check is whether they below to a motor industry association. Whilst this isn’t any guarantee of standards it does increase the authenticity of the business.
Getting through a day without your car can often be a logistical nightmare. Especially if you have a fair way to travel for work. Thankfully there are additional services that some Mechanics offer to easy the problem.
Some mechanics offer the use of a courtesy car so that you can get through your day with very little impact. Depending on how close the mechanic is to your work they may also have a courtesy bus that can drop you off. Obviously these conveniences do increase the cost of getting your vehicle serviced.
If you would prefer not to have the inconvenience of leaving your car with someone you could choose a mechanic who comes to you. These services are often comparable in price as their travel costs are balanced by savings from not paying rent, etc.
Another option is use a While You Wait service. Just head down in your lunch break and they’ll sort everything out on the spot (assuming there’s no major issues).
If you’re just getting a standard service done than going to a while you wait service centre can be a great option. They offer a good price because they can get you in and out in short space of time. If your car needs to have some problems fixed though, then it’s often better to take it to a Mechanic who can spend the time diagnosing and repairing the problem.
Despite what the dealerships imply, you are fully within your rights to get your vehicle serviced by any mechanic you choose. So long as they use genuine or equivalent parts. The only exception is if it is a repair that is covered under warranty, this has to be carried out by a dealership’s mechanic (though you won’t be charged for it).
So long as the Mechanic is qualified and uses the appropriate parts then your warranty will be safe.
As we get busier and busier these days it’s important to find a mechanic that
There are some Mechanics out there who open early and shut late. The advantage is that you can drop your vehicle off before work and pick it up afterwards. The other major difference between Mechanics is that some of them will be open on Saturday. If you find it hard to get any spare time during the week then this can be a godsend.
This is an interesting point to consider and there are two schools of thought. One is that Mechanics with dirtier workshops will do a better job as they’re more focused on your car and it also means your not paying for them to clean the shop so you should pay less. On the contrary though is that if the Mechanic can’t look after their own shop, how likely are they to look after your car.
In reality it comes down to your preference. A clean workshop is an indication you’ll pay more but your car should be well looked after.
You can ask a friend, keep an eye or ear out for them when they advertise on the TV or radio, though you will pay a premium with these guys (they have to pay for the ad somehow). Another option is a Google search or an online directory like findmylocal.com.au.
