5 Tips For Choosing A Mechanic

Finding the right Central Coast Mechanic can be a stressful decision. To ease some of the pain I’ve compiled a few handy tips that will hopefully make you feel more confident with the Mechanic you’ve chosen to entrust your car with.

Vehicle Knowledge

This isn’t the easiest thing to do. Especially if there’s a receptionist. Ask them a few questions about what kind of work they’ll do on your vehicle (if you know nothing about a car then this pretty pointless and you can move on to the other tips). Make sure the Mechanic knows his stuff and has been around for a while.

Experience with your make

Make sure the Mechanic is familiar with your make of car and is generally aware of your specific model of vehicle. Cars quite often have similar problems across all of their models. If your mechanic is familiar with working on these types of cars then they are more likely to know about common faults and how to fix them. This can save you a lot of money in the long run as you aren’t paying for them to diagnose the problem and workout what’s wrong.

Approachable Mechanic

When it comes to getting your car serviced you may find yourself with a lot of questions afterwards around the work that was done or potential issues that have come up with your vehicle. You want to find a Mechanic that is happy to talk to you about the work they’ve done and you want to make sure that they give you sound advice and don’t just give you some dribble about how a problem with one part affects other totally unrelated parts (again, hard to do if you know absolutely nothing about cars).

Shop Quality

This goes without saying, if they can’t look after their own shop, what’s the likelihood they’re going to take good care of your car.

Think about Transportation

Can you do without your car for the day? How will you get from and back to the mechanic to pick your car up? While this certainly shouldn’t be a main factor for choosing a mechanic, it is something you’ll need to think about. If you go with a mechanic who has a courtesy car or shuttle service it will cost more but is far more convenient.

The other option is to go with a while-you-wait-service where they can have your basic service done in less than an hour.
