With plenty of Bookkeepers on the Central Coast, how do you choose the right one.
Let’s look at some of the key elements that make a good bookkeeper. They include: Level of Communication, Range of Services, Professional Associations, Insurance and References. In Part 2 we’ll look at Knowledge, Technology, Reliability, Experience, and How Much They Charge.
The other thing to consider is how well they will work in with your accountant. A seemless relationship with your bookkeeper and accountant will make your job that much easier as you don’t have to get caught up in the admin side of managing your books.
Also, how well do they explain things to you. Are they going to educate you on the things you need to know about your books or are they just going to do their job and let you figure out the rest?
What services do they provide? Bookkeepers can look after your BAS, Payroll, Superannuation and more. Some bookkeepers will also prepare all your financial statements and can also provide you with ongoing financial reports.
Are they associated with a professional body such as the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers.
Depending on the bookkeeper, some like to work onsite and others like to work offsite. If they are going to work offsite and take some of your files with them, make sure they have insurance that will cover any lost documents (just in case they’re lost or even stolen). Do they have current and professional insurance.
Ask for references from existing clients or past employers. Your bookkeeper should be happy for you to request a reference. This will tell you what level of service your likely to receive, directly from their current clients.
