In this article we’ll continue our look into what makes a Great Central Coast Cafe. Over the past couple of articles we’ve looked at the outside of a Great Café and we’ve looked at the Inside of a Café. Now it’s time to get down to what a Café delivers. The beverages, the food and the service.
Coffee aside, food is the next most important feature of a great Café. Lets face it, the inside and the outside could be perfect but if the food isn’t up to scratch then there’s no way you’ll be going back.
A good coffee shop has a wide range of food to suit most tastes and to cater for the different needs of their customers.
It could be because they can make a delicious focaccia that’s lovingly toasted, or a fresh salad that’s drizzled with a delicious dressing, or could it be the homemade muffins, and let’s not forget the perfectly toasted banana bread.
A good café will serve a variety of coffees: some that are hot, some that are cold, some that are tall, some that are short, and some that aren’t actually coffees at all.
For more prestigious coffee shops and for true aficionados a great coffee shop will have a variety of beans and blends. Without going into the specific blends (there could be dozens of articles on each), a truly great coffee shop would have a at least three different beans to choose from.
Let’s not forget that just as important as the coffee beans and blends, is the way it’s prepared and made. It can’t be burnt, the milk shouldn’t be over cooked and there must be a good crema on top.
Some of the coffee shops around the coast are starting to get a great range of alternative beverages, let’s face it not everyone has the same passion or interest in coffee so it’s important there’s a wide assortment. These beverages include: soft drinks, mineral waters, juices, milkshakes, and iced teas. A great Café would have a large selection for people to choose from.
A great coffee shop must have speedy service plus wait staff that are attentive and seeing that your needs are met. They must be knowledgeable about the products and specials and must have a bit of charisma to get you feeling good. If they’re particularly great, they’ll remember your drink incase you want a second and will know your order if you’ve been there any more than 3 times in a week.
A great café must make it easy and convenient for you to pay. So they need to accept cash, EFTPOS and Credit.
When it comes to serving up it’s all about the food, drinks, service and payment that make a good Central Coast Café Great.
In the final part we’re going to summarise from the different articles what makes a great café and we may even look at some of the extras that exceptional cafes offer. Part 5: What Makes a Good Central Coast Café Great? – In Summary
